The Newness of Fall

New opportunities, new beginnings, fresh starts… When I ponder new opportunities and beginnings, including the change of seasons, the latter days of August always pop to mind mainly because in the Yakima Valley the cooler nights of late August coincide with the start of a brand new school year and the anticipation of fall (my favorite season).

Almost all people (including students) anticipate and enjoy the opportunity to start anew. We love to imagine exciting opportunities and situations we may experience. A new school year is no different-some new clothes and shoes, new binders, new classes, new academic and athletic challenges, new teachers…

We should not be surprised by this desire. God, in His infinite wisdom, recognizes our desire for newness because we live in a broken, sinful world that impacts every aspect of our lives; and yet we yearn for something much better.

Thankfully, because of God’s incredible grace, He reveals to us in His holy, infallible, and inspired Word that we can start anew if we confess and repent of our sins, put our hope for salvation in Christ Jesus, and live a life of obedience to God.  We are promised by God through the apostle Paul “to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness” Ephesians 4:23-24.

Upon these reflections we begin a brand new school year. This fall at SCHS, we welcome our students (both returning students and new students) and two new staff members, Ms. Eliya Hogan (science) and Mrs. Alaina Wright (math). We, as staff members at SCHS, ask for your prayers and support as we embark upon the adventure of a new school year.

GO MAKE A POSITIVE DIFFERENCE!
