  • Applicant, applicant's mother, or applicant's grandmother must be a current active member of the Yakima Valley Dairy Women.
  • Applicants may be male or female.
  • GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Must be planning to attend university, college, community college, vocational, or technical school in the next year.

A minimum of $500 will be awarded to the top applicant(s).

For students enrolled or planning to enroll in an approved trade program: Automotive Tech, Aviation Tech, Carpentry, Commercial Driving, Construction, Diesel Tech, Electrical Tech, Farming and Agriculture, Fire Science & Tech, Heavy Equipment Operation, HVAC, Machinery, Manufacturing, Marine Technology, Pipefitting, Plumbing or Welding.

Astria Sunnyside Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Scholarship (Local/Area) 3/30/2019 $1,000-$2,000
  • This scholarship is for seniors or current college students who will be pursuing a career in a health care related field.  It may be used at a 2- or 4-year college.
  • The scholarship committee is most interested in supporting students who would like to return to the area after completing their education.

More than $18,000 in scholarships were awarded in 2018-19

WIAA Smart Choices Scholarship Scholarship (WA) 4/1/2019 $1,000-$5,000

The Dairy Farmers of Washington and Les Schwab Tires in conjunction with the WIAA proudly present the Smart Choices Scholarship Program.  This annual program recognizes one male and one female graduating senior from among the WIAA member high schools for excellence in athletics/activities, academics, leadership and community service throughout his and her high school career.  

Applicant must be a consumer of real dairy products and not opposed to dairy product production or practices based on social or personal choice regarding animal welfare or nutritional beliefs.

In addition to a series of background questions, each applicant will be required to write a <250 word essay or provide a personal statement video about “How you plan to use your education to benefit others.” 

The judging criteria is based on:

35% athletic/activity excellence,
35% percent academic achievement,
15% percent leadership,
10% percent citizenship/community service, and
5% on originality/creativity of the student’s essay or video.


One male student and one female student will receive a $5,000 scholarship toward the institution of his or her choosing. 
An additional four (4) male and four (4) female finalists receive $1,000 scholarships.

Yakima Sunrise Rotary Speech Contest Other Competition 4/24/2019 $1,000-2,000

High School seniors (excluding foreign exchange students) are invited to compete.

Your speech of up to five minutes in length may be on any topic of your choice, as long as it is approved by Mrs. Haak or Mr. Elenbaas.

Your speech must incorporate Rotary's "Four Way Test," which virtually any speech topic can accomodate:

  1. Is it the truth?
  2. Is it fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
  4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

All rotary members strive to uphold these values in their clubs and communities.

2nd Place $1,500
3-5th Place $1,000

April 24 - Deadline to register with Mrs. Haak
May 6 - Preliminary Round of Speeches
May 7 - Preliminary Round continued if there are more than 25 applicants.
May 15 - Top five speakers from the prelimary round will present their speeches to the Yakima Sunrise Rotary Club.  Rotary club will vote.
May 22 - Winners will be announced and awards presented.

All participants must be available for the preliminary round and the final round.

NWCCF Careers that Work! Scholarship (Northwest Region) 6/1/2019 $1,000

 Each year, every high school in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington (public and private)are given five $1000 tuition scholarships to award to graduating students headed to one of the participating career colleges.

The most common participating college our students attend is Perry Technical Institute.
