Where are you from? I was born in Spokane, though I spent many summers as a child running around my grandmother’s farm in Sunnyside.
Tell us about your family. My parents live in Spokane, and my older brother is serving as a Captain in the army. He and my sister in law live in Lacey, WA. My aunt and uncle Barker, and cousins, the Clapp family, live here in the valley.
What was your school like growing up? I went to public school for Elementary, Middle and High school. I enjoyed school, and became very involved with music.
Why do you like teaching? I like seeing the happiness on students’ faces when they can hear their progress as a musician. It is wonderful to see their hard work pay off!
What do you like to do when you aren’t teaching? I like to travel with friends and family, have a lazy day full of reading and music, or explore new places around the valley.
What’s your favorite Bible verse and why? 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV) “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
This verse speaks to me in two ways. The first is that, even while our lives are challenging and imperfect, God is abundantly faithful, and will guide us through any hardships that arise. The second is that, while we may doubt our inner gifts, God knows our fullest potential, and supports us as we face every measure of our lives. We are never alone, and we are capable of so much greatness through God who strengthens us.
What’s your favorite snack? I enjoy just about every baked good I have come across.
