Miss Slager

Where are you from?
Born and raised in Quincy, Wa on a small farm just outside of town.
Tell us about your family.
My dad was initially a teacher here at Sunnyside Christian but ended up taking over my grandfather’s farm and has been there with my mom ever since. I have an older sister who is also a teacher, and my brother followed in my mother’s footsteps by going into business in Seattle.
What was your school like growing up?
I went to a very small Christian school back home where everybody was like family. I later transferred into a public high school which was quite the adjustment but was a blessing which really prepared me for college
Why do you like teaching 5th grade?
To be honest I’m not 100% sure yet! I know I will enjoy getting to know the students and learning alongside them. As a first year teacher I will have a lot to learn, but I’m excited for the growth that will happen between the students and myself.
What do you like to do when you aren’t teaching?
Anything social. I love spending time with people, especially family. But I love watching sporting events, going for a hike, or anything else that keeps me busy.
What’s your favorite Bible verse and why?
Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything but in every situation by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” I always find this verse can be incorporated into any walk of life.
What’s your favorite snack?
How can I pin down just one? In the summer I always gravitate towards fresh fruit. However, popcorn has always been a nightly tradition in my family.
