Mrs. TerHune

My name is Lauren TerHune. This school year (2022-23) will be my 13th year of teaching. I've taught both Kindergarten and First Grade, but Early Childhood Education is my passion. I was raised in Exeter, California. A tiny town in the foothills of Tulare County that is known for orange groves, murals, and antique shops. I went to Fresno Pacific University for my undergraduate and credential program in Elementary Education. I'm working on my Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education through Dordt University.
What do you like to do when you aren’t teaching? I love to cook and bake for family and friends. I enjoy reading, photography, camping, and vacationing in Idaho and on the Oregon Coast. I am happiest outside, enjoying the beautiful weather of the PNW.
What’s your favorite Bible verse, and why? Psalm 84 is my favorite chapter. I remember reading through it for the first time after a close friend's funeral when I was 16, and it has always been a comfort and refuge to me, knowing that no matter what the day may bring, “Better is one day in your courts, than a thousand elsewhere.” Another favorite verse is 2 Timothy 1:7, "For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline."
What’s your favorite snack? Dark chocolate and strong coffee.
What’s the best thing you learned from your parents? Have a good work ethic, stay humble and stand up for others in their time of need.
What stat for your life would you most like to see? Just how many times I've said, "This is my favorite book!" to my students. I'm sure I'd have a children's bookstore if I weren't a teacher. My goal is to have a library that Belle would envy! (Complete with a ladder!)
What risks are worth taking? Doing what's best for your students, even if it's not the popular opinion.
What is one of your favorite smells? The smell of the earth after it rains. Also known as 'petrichor' in case you were wondering.
If you could make one rule everyone had to follow, what would you make? Be kind! Smile. You never know what hardship someone might be facing.
What is something you are sure you’ll never experience? Bungee Jumping. Heights are for the birds. Ack!
What would be the most amazing adventure to go on? A tour of the Scottish Highlands and Islands, Admiring the Northern Lights from a glass igloo in Saariselkä, Finland.
What’s something you like to do the old-fashioned way? Writing recipes into a recipe book and baking from scratch.
