Mr. Gorter is involved with several activities at school besides teaching mathematics and physics. The past three summers he led climbs of Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Si with groups of students and teachers. He has also organized Math League and Trig Star compititions for several years, as well as an occasional bookclub with students and teachers.
Besides teaching, Mr. Gorter also enjoys backpacking, camping, running, and reading. He had the opportunity to climb Mt. Baker this past summer. Mr. Gorter also teaches a mathematics class at Heritage University in the late afternoon twice a week. His favorite activity, however, is spending time at home with his wife Tammy and three children: Heidi (3), Isaac (1), and Hannah (0).
