About SCS

Where did we come from?

  • In 1942, men and women of faith and vision began planning for the Sunnyside Christian School. The first classes were held in 1947, and SCS has since been training young minds to serve God in many vocations across the world.
  • In the last 60 years, two campuses have been purchased (5 acres—elementary and 25 acres—high school); along with the building of modern classrooms and multi-purpose rooms. All property and facilities are debt-free, built with donations from the SCS society.
  • The student body represents 35 different Christian churches!

What do we offer?

  • A quality Christ-centered education on two campuses:
Elementary (PreK-8) and High School (9-12).
  • State required and approved courses - SCS is an approved private school. All teachers are state certified, and state required and approved courses are taught.
  • Courses which develop God's gifts.
  • Preparation for the future - College prep courses and vocational training are high educational priorities for SCS.
  • Extra-curricular activities such as field trips, Close-Up Washington D.C., Washington state trip, Olympia tour, Career Awareness, and Intramural and Interscholastic sports.

What is a Christ-centered education?

  • We develop the truth that God is revealed in the Bible but also in biology, band, and all other subjects and activities.
  • Christian love must be expressed in the hallways, office, classrooms, and on the field, court, and diamond every day.

How do we operate?

  • We are financed through tuition, gifts and pledges, supporting churches, fundraisers, and endowments.
  • SCS is controlled and operated by a society of parents, not a church or denomination. Nine board members are elected from the society at large to assist with the operations and to raise funds.
  • Teachers must be Christians who desire a Christ-centered education.
  • Admission is by formal application.
  • We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, sex, or handicap.
